SLR ends Fiesta Cup campaign

ANTHONY Johnson did everything he could to avoid going back home, but the lack of firepower was too much for the undermanned Sta. Lucia Realtors.
Sta. Lucia Realty, playing without rookie of the year Ryan Reyes and 2008 MVP Kelly Williams, lost back-to-back games against Burger King in their best-of-three quarterfinals series at the PBA-Motolite Fiesta Conference to also finally end this season.
After winning Game 1 at the Araneta Coliseum, 93-84, the Realtors lost in Game 2 (81-94) and Game 3 (72-120) also at the same venue to finally make an exit this conference.
Williams, who is rehabilitating to increase the platelet count on his blood, and Reyes, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, were in the injured list that left Sta. Lucia without any offensive options but Johnson, Joseph Yeo and Nelbert Omolon.
Johnson tallied 21 points in Game 2 and 30 points and 20 rebounds in Game 3, while Yeo had only 12 and 17 in Game 2 and 3, respectively. Omolon was held to only five points in Game 3, where the Whoppers were able to unleash an explosive start.
Sta. Lucia was demolished at the end of first quarter, 17-33, and Burger King did not look back from there.
Burger King meets San Miguel Beer in a best-of-three semifinals showdown, while Ginebra takes on first time finalist Rain or Shine in the other semifinals game.
The defeat was also Sta. Lucia’s worst, far eclipsing its 79-114 thrashing received from a Guiao-coached Red Bull squad in the 2007 edition of the same tournament.
The 48-point winning margin was also the league’s biggest since Alaska defeated Tanduay 119-71 in the battle for third in the 2000 Commissioner’s Cup.

lupa is right.its time to move on and look to free up the salary space.retaining williams, yeo and bitoy would be d main agenda for d management..it’s also logical to get quality bench players to offset the injuries.
mendoza is not helping the team,his a handicap sa defense plus he’s very inconsistent.
mamaclay,butel and jaime should also be waive.these guys dont contribute in CB’s system.they cant even get their minutes bcoz they cant play defense.
target bigmen in d draft-jervy cruz,terrel teophile or rico maierhofer
if not trade the pick for a young center that can help defensively-eman or rob reyes should fit in CB’s system

As viewed from the Start, Dennis, Paulo and Marlou cant anymore carry the team to glory as ther prime has already finished. SLR may need either Dennis and Marlou in the coaching staff to train the next center. SLR so could also look into the undrafted rookies last year and see if they can train Centers early for next season while looking for posibilities i the draft or Free agency. They should also retain Kelly, Ryan, Bitoy , Joseph and Denok as there core team.

Agree ako sa mga comments nila na its about time to let go off dennis espino, marlou aquino, paolo mendoza, philip butel, mamaclay. What Sta Lucia need is young, big, versatile and talented players. I would love to see rico maierhofer, erwin gaco, jervy cruz or even japeth aguilar in Sta Lucia line up. Available na rin ba sa pba drafting sina elmer espiritu ( he’s a hardworker at leaper pa ), what about baracael? and barroca?
Masyadong lean ang bench ng SLR kumpara sa ibang teams. The core of the team : kelly williams, ryan reyes, joseph yeo, nelbert omolon and denok miranda.
Duda ako sa salary cap ng purefoods, san miguel, alaska and ginebra. They can get easily those players na magaling at bata pa. I like marc pingris also in SLR line up ( he’s a big help in rebounding and defense ).
Wake up STA LUCIA MANAGEMENT !!!
Im very happy pag nananalo ang SLR but every time naman na natatalo sila i usually called them as SANTALUNAN. Sayang ang talent nina williams, reyes, yeo, omolon at miranda kung walang support from the bench.

If im not mistaken, di ba malapit ng mag end of contract sina kelly williams at joseph yeo? Any news from the management? Hope hinde na i-extend ng SLR ang contracts nina marlou aquino, dennis espino at paolo mendoza. We can see naman na mas liability na sila sa team. They can’t score, rebound and play good defense even their foul shooting is not effective anymore. What about Al Husseini of Ateneo? Is he available for the coming draft? Sayang din si Carlo Sharma baket nde nakuha ng SLR from Red Bull? I created my own lineup for our team sta. lucia

I saw james sena played. He’s a hardworker and can play defense on opposing teams. Bout Jervy Cruz he’s good inside and can rebound as well but i think he is small at center. Mike Holper is a good catch also.
If SLR can’t get rico maierhofer or even jervy cruz. Good pick sina james sena and gerwin gaco.
May mga idea ba kayo guys kung sino from other teams na mag-eexpire na ang contract ( center / power forward position ) ?. What about patrick cabahug i think undrafted siya last year. Pede ng pamalit iyon kay paolo mendoza at shooting forward.

I would guess that SLR will be drafting 5th or 6th. It may be very difficult to find Rico or Jervy, it would be very lucky if these guys will still be available in the 5th or 6th pick.Will just hope that SLR scouting team knows their job and knows how to get additional players that can help regain the AFC championship. For Patrick C, he should be available as he is a free agent. If he has no attitude problem and can fit well to Boyets system, why not.

Nice to read some message from you Coach Boyet Fernandez.
As an avid fan of Sta. Lucia, im praying also for the speedy recovery of Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes. And, i felt very happy also that the coaching staffs and management are working hand in hand for the betterment and making our team much stronger next season.
Just asking, what is the plan of SLR Management with regards to Marlou Aquino, Dennis Espino and Paolo Mendoza? Hope the management should retire these veteran players since very evident that they can no longer play competitive basketball. Giving enough space also for the team salary cap.
Secondly, what is the position of Sta Lucia in this coming rookie draft on August? Hope and pray they could get either of Rico Maierhofer, Jervy Cruz and James Seña.
Hope they could get also Enrico Villanueva since there’s a rumor that he’s on the trading block. I would also love to see Ken Bono and Mark Borboran in SLR lineup. Both of them are wasted talent since they cannot get playing time with their respective mother team. Mike Holper, Anthony Dela Cruz and Chris Pacana are welcome addition too. Chris Pacana is a good alternate at the point.
What about Erwin Gaco? Is he a free agent? SLR can also get his services for defensive purposes.

Better din kung sa coaching management na lang ung 3 beterano kasi, lets face it, di na sila makasabay sa mga bata at the same time masyado malaki ang mga salary nila, kaya much better to get those 5 people who are much quicker and reliable kung bibigyan ng playing time. Concentrate na lang muna sana kayo sa pagkuha sa kanila kesa sa upcoming rookies ngayon taon.

coach,do extend Kelly, Joseph and Bitoy’s contract, also with Ryan. This should be the team priority. As for Marlou, Capt and Paolo, since they still have existing contracts, coaching and management staff could always opt to honor the contract but may consider them as reserves or coaching staff. Marlou, Capt and Paolo, will always be remembered in SLRs history booksas SLR greats, but its now time to change the face of the team to a faster and defensive oriented team.A very difficult job for the coaching staff, scouting staff and management staff to be in, as all the teams now have all the resources available to improve the team, as talents are abundant in both from FA and rookies.

Im a Celtics fan and its very exciting to see the player movements due to opening of the free agency today in the NBA. How will Celtics improve the team to cope up with Magic and Cleveland. This will be the same with SLR this coming August in the Draft as well as from the Free Agency. This will take plenty of time and dedication to select players who will be very willing to adjust to Coach Boyets system, we just hope that the players in the Managments plan is available as well as affordable. Im also curious, whats the salary cap of SMB, GBK and Alaska as there team is loaded with potential first fives.

Impressive si Japeth Aguilar sa tune up game ng Powerade Team. Hope we can get this guy. He’s good in defense and can rebound very well. Malaki ang improvement niya. He is 6′9. But Marlou Aquino is also 6′9 pero baket hinde siya makakuha ng rebounds? Mas magiging matindi ang depensa ng STA. LUCIA once makuha naten ito from rookie draft.
Marlonzky…malabo makapaglaro si sam ekwe sa pba. Since wala naman siyang dugong pinoy. Example na lang si Alex compton. He used to play in the PBA but as an import.

Crucial shot, Ryan is very vital to Sta Lucia’s defense although his back injury is keeping him sidelined quite some time but his presence is very important. Suggest to wait for the Free Agency and Draft. Trading Ryan is not worth it at this time for a higher Pick.

originally, we are drafting 7th overall but as crucial shot said, shell is picking no. 2 but because they disbanded already, we move up to 6th overall.
how i wish i can accommodate all your suggestions but my hands are tied right now but rest assured that i am always making our decisions for the good of the team, you may not all like our decisions but i hope you will all support the team all he way.

Any news from the rookie draft? Sinu-sino na ba ang nag-apply for the coming rookie draft?
By picking no. 6, chances to get the services of Jervy Cruz, Rico Maierhofer, Japeth Aguilar and James Seña is 50/50. Select the next best available player na lang. Hopefully, through free agency we can get at least 3 to 4 big guys.
Why not buying out the remaining contracts of marlou aquino and paolo mendoza to give more space sa salary cap ng SLR.

Richard from what i saw in the inquirer, the locals who applied already are Jervy Cruz and Rico Maierhofer. For Fil-ams, Josh Valandingham, Chris Ross and a certain Kevin Alapag White.

Well it’s just a suggestion hinde naman talaga yung design ng slr..just the kind of green lang and besides there’s nothing wrong with changing right? just the hue and brightness of the color and not the whole thing…dba pag kaw u have something new dba khit papano ur excited to use or wear it ryt it inpsires you wd work or play and to do well
so just sharing my thoughts abt it.. neway, to keyly n ryan the unbeatable duo get well and to jo yeo! keep it up!

Well, we have plans of changing or having a new uniform since last season but it just too costly for our shallow pockets. But don’t worry, no one knows we can parade a new uniform this coming season for the delight of our dear fans.
As of now, we are focused re-signing back our free agents. We have received a lot of offers also for Kelly and Ryan as well as Bitoy. We will still be weighing the best options as of now.

For me i think hinde bagay sa team si samigue eman. Mabagal din siya kumilos like marlou aquino baka nga injury prone player din etong si eman. Baka yao ming din yan. Mas okey pa sa akin si ken bono. Hardworker din eto at may scoring pa plus he can defend well.
Retain sina kelly williams, joseph yeo, denok miranda at omolon.
Nelbert Omolon nasa trading block? pwede kung si Marc Pingris ang kapalit. Knowing pingris is a very good rebounder at magaling sa depense.
Miller for sta lucia? pede! magaling siya kung sa magaling kaya lang pagdating sa crucial play nagmimintis.

Coach Boyet Fernandez, what is the latest news and updates now for our Sta. Lucia team? How’s Kelly Williams and Joseph Yeo’s contract?
Is the management going to renew the contract of Nelbert Omolon? Or are we going to trade him?
Hope we can get the players we wanted through free agency to improve our inside game, rebounding and inside defense.

the best possible option talaga eh e trade na si marlou or buy out nalang ang contract nya together with paolo, sorry gusy pero ito lng ang nakikita kong madaling gawin para makakuha ng matibay tibay na player. diba coach boyet? ano sa tingin mo. dennis espino i think pwede pa sya para sa iang year pa. mahirap naman kung tatangaling natin agad lahat nang beterano. atleast with espino in the team eh at least may leader pang masasandalan. sina butel , mamaclay tangalin na. look what burger king did, madami silang nakuhang maasahan na free agent.
