Yeo’s 2nd best game not enough

JOSEPH Yeo fired all 14 points in the second half, including three important baskets in payoff frame, but Sta. Lucia Realty’s comeback bid wasn’t enough to beat Alaska on Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Yeo’s night, however, was spoiled by the game officials that led to Sta. Lucia’s 77-85 loss.

When Yeo attempted for a game-tying drive off Alaska’s Reynel Hugnatan, the ref immediately called an offensive foul despite the moving defender. Then, Alaska’s three-point lead turned to 83-77 spread with a minute left and Sta. Lucia could not get back.

Kelly Williams fired 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Ryan Reyes had 14 points too and Nelbert Omolon finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Realtors, who dropped to 9-7 log.

Alaska improved to 12-3 card – just a game for an outright semifinals slot.

“Joseph Yeo was fantastic for the second straight game. Good for us, Jeff (Cariaso) came out and provided us a real veteran presence, getting huge rebounds and huge points,” said Alaska coach Tim Cone.

Sta Lucia needs to win its last two games – Barako Bull and Purefoods – to snare an outright quarterfinals slot.

Quarter Scores: 11-14, 33-22, 60-60, 85-77.

    I know how we lost the game.The refs were all related to Tenorio.Just had to be.Let’s review, we get called for two offensive fouls(Hacks) costing us at least five points, Tenorio gets handchecked and goes to the line for four points.Just too obvious the way they favored the Aces.
    Game stolen not lost.Let’s just hope we never see these refs again.

    We lost this game because of our lack of interior defense. Thoss & Hugnatan are unstoppable inside, Tenorio was just making lay-ups without any challenge and Devance picking up those offensive rebounds and put back. We only have Marlou for a legit center and he’s getting old and slow. There’s nothing we can do about the referees making those errant calls but management can definitely do something about our lack of a legit center if they at least want to make it to the semis this conference.

    Too bad also for Yeo. He was so hot making those consecutive shots then suddenly he was replaced by Reyes. Coach B should’ve exploited Yeo’s shooting streak and he should’ve replaced Pacana instead of Yeo. Nobody in the Aces was able to stop Yeo at that time. I really don’t know what got into Coach Boyet’s mind. tsk. tsk……(sigh)

    Tama ka John… anon ba yung pacana ni coach? Pinalitan niya ni Joseph instead of Pacana na laging iniiwanan ni L.A. Sayang, sayang talaga. Saka si Nelbert di masyadong binabad ng 2nd half, eh ang ganda ng simula niya. Kainis binabad si Pacana nung crucial stage ng game. Hay naku, kainis talaga. Had a bad… still having one because of SLR’s loss. Nakakapanghinayang kasi eh. we could’ve win that 1. Sayang talaga.

    we’ve been robbed. Please check on the number 85 ref. ito yun parati masama ang mga tawag pati sa ibang games. Hindi lang sa SLR. Madami na nakakahalata dito.

    Bad lucks, Bad call, The Referee dictate the game! Result-talo!..game frustration nabwisit 2loy si yeo at coaching staff at whole slr. Sayang 2pt lng lamang ng alaska non pumito ang ref ng off foul kay josh at sayang din nag-error si ryan! Anyway, talgang pinilit naman ng realtors hindi nga lng pumanig sa atin ang panalo. Better luck next game.

    This game was dictated by the refs, who by the way did the worst job of officiating that I have ever seen.Ticky-Tack fouls.Please go back to grammar school.They called two offensive fouls incorrectly towards the last few minutes of the game.one on Yeo and on on the Fireball.Thank God Yeo spoke up,someone has to have some balls, when your team is getting unfair and almost biased calls.Send this group of refs back to the minor leagues.I have been watching NBA for over thirty years and the PBA refs are not even close.Too many whistles on close contact, let the game go a little.ONCE AGAIN HORRIBLE JOB BY THE REFS.

    it was a bad call. on ryan reyes drible infraction in slipped his hand and picked the ball up and did not dribble. So its not a dribbling violation. On yeo, definitely its not an offensive foul, there was no shoulder contact on the opponent, and the opponent jump and did not have good position. It was pretty obvious the refs wanted alaska to win by a distant. With the call on Josh, it is arguable bt the call was so late.

    Sobrang obvious na tumaya yun referee. The ref on that game should be on for suspension or probation. Body language palang ng ref sa game obvious na. We should bring this up to the comissioner and habe a protest on these referees and remove them in the league

    if daa and mendoza lang i trade for sure in return hindi big name or hindi reliable center ang makukuha natin kasi wala trade value ang dalawa better kung sila lang keep na lang natin hanggang mag end ng contract sila.If may chance na makuha si jr reyes sa ROS lets do it we could package espinas and maybe a secound round pick this coming draft.Then at the end of this conference release na natin si benitez,larong,pacana,mendoza,aquino.From there kuha or pili tayo ng mga reliable players na free agents.I think mas magiging competetive at nka save tayo ng malaki sa salary cap natin.We could get topex,se db?

    Speaking of Cardona, don’t be surprised if you hear rumors of a disgruntled Mac Mac wanting out of TNT. There are reports that Cardona doesn’t like Chot Reyes, and wants to be traded. The last two losses saw how frustrated Cardona was and by all indications, may have made the former La Salle stalwart wanting to be traded.

    Reports say Ryan Reyes is the player that Chot Reyes is eyeing, in case he has to trade Cardona. Will SLR bite? Cardona is obviously a marquee player and league superstar, and can carry a team on his shoulders. Ryan Reyes, on the other hand, is more of a team player, but is solid and one of the best two guards in the league today. A trade seems fair – it would depend though on Boyet Fernandez’s value of Reyes as a player.

    #10, seems a good one to trade, but on my opinion, i would rather trade 2 players for macmac since RR is one of the core players at SLR. Just an opinion.

    RR is one of the best og-pg ngayon he can play very tough defense sa kalaban an elite defender i should say. He rebounds,hustle,shoots well from the outside and magaling sa steals.While cardona puro offense lang cya though we need him para support kay kelly at yeo sa offense but i think mas kailangan natin c reyes at this time.Iyon nga lang tlgng kailangan i upgrade ang lineup natin kasi injury prone c reyes at williams kasi halos lahat ng load nasa kanila.I would stick to what i have said kahapon na release na lang natin c benitez,pacana,larong,Daa and retire marlou and paolo and gawin trade bait si espinas imagine lalaki ang salary cap natin and sign free agents na tlgng could help the team.

    Well, pag natalo ang TNT against SMB mas malaki ang chance natin sa Quarters. PF might go easy on us since they are together with GSM is already assured of a place in the Quarters. :D

    may chance pa naman to tie. kahit wildcard tayo lumalaban ang team at hirap sila pag kalaban slr. kaysa naman dun sa apat na teams talagang pang wildcard lang ang kinaya.

    What is the coach thinking? Is this a practice game VS BB.We had a lead of 12 points.Then he substitutes not one, but four players, three who were on fire. We had the rhythm and then lost it. I simply can’t believe it, Deja Vu, total frusration.Fact:After subs went in our bench scored 10points while they scored 23 POINTS.We gained the lead back once he put the starting squad back in.God help the coach and tell him it’s a must win situation.AMEN.

    Marlou is no longer young. Kelly will tire, Ryan has nagging injuries, Omolon/Urbiztondo, inconsistent. How do you think they’d keep up through the rest of the game if you play them long minutes in the first quarter/half?

    A basketball game can’t be won in the first quarter/half alone. A coach needs to pace his players hot or cold in order for them to still keep up through the later stages of the game.

    CB is a good coach, let’s give him credit, especially with the team the management could afford.

    I’ll say this now. One of these days, a bigger, richer team MAY take this coach away from SLR. Maybe not a Head coach immediately, but they will offer him something. And we, the fans may regret lambasting him from time to time when we think he blundered some calls on the bench or everytime the team loses…

    Hoping for a good game against PF. I wish we could watch it live.

    @kreator929, bro, from the start we have been asking Coach CB and the mgmt to provide good rotation, kasi hindi kaya nina KWILL, Ryan, Yeo, Gabby at Bitoy maglaro ng 48 mins, mawawala talaga ung consistency nila lalo na sa end games, ung ang importante. Tsaka hindi gaya ng ibang nagcomment na magResign si Coach, Ako I’ll stick with coach, mahirap ang trabaho nya ngayon kasi mahina ang bench natin.Hoping walang injury at magclick ang lahat sa game ngayong Friday vs PF.

    @kreator929. I see where you are coming from but there is something to be said for momentum and rythum. Players get their momentum going and they don’t tire that easily with the adrenaline flowing. The time to take them out is when that changes. CB takes takes the players out just as they are getting their rythum and chemistry going, and he replaced 4 players at a time which is unheard of (in the first quarter). I still think that is one of his biggest coaching mistakes. He should try to change this for the betterment of the team. Don’t be too sensitive, he is human and makes mistakes but the question is can he correct the mistakes.

    Yup, that’s what I was pointing out. The reason why he replaced the players is to pace them. Look at the result. They had a good final quarter, as they were able defend well. Add to this, the support crew did a better job in the second half compared to the first.

    Your points are well taken. But you have to look at the result. The guys had more sustained energy throughout the second half. Where it truly matters. Replacing 4 players in the first quarter isn’t unheard of. Watch BK play, or if you caught the teams Coach Yeng had handled in the past. He does that. Jaworski did that.

    For me, CB is better than Coach Alfrancis Chua, and I have the biggest respect for Coach Alfrancis, having been a supporter of his teams even in the PBL, add to that, I hated CB as a player.

    And by the way, i’m not too sensitive. I’m just telling it as I see it. Some posters here whenever the team losses, wants a coaching change. Professional Basketball teams are not ran that way. Maybe in a fantasy league.
