AJ coming back for SLR?

WILL it be Anthony Johnson?
Life goes on for the Sta. Lucia Realtors after ending their stint in the 35th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup last Sunday.
When asked about their import next conference, Sta. Lucia Realtors mentor coach Boyet Fernandez said: “We are still discussing about our import next conference, but AJ (Anthony Johnson) is also considered. We’ll see it.”
The 6-foot-6 Johnson, who established a personal high 42 points and 24 rebounds last conference, may return to the country to suit up for the Realtors again, according to reports, but nothing is final yet.
Johnson was almost averaging 25 points and 20 rebounds last Fiesta conference.
Fernandez and the Realtors are aiming to improve their quarterfinal finish last Fiesta conference.
“That’s our goal and we’re targeting to return to practice two weeks from now,” he said. “We are hoping our players will also be in good health.”
Last Fiesta Conference, Kelly Williams, the team’s go-ahead player, was sideline to injury due to blood disorder and did not play most of their games in the last round, including the quarterfinals when they lost to the Burger King Whopper.
If ever Johnson returns and everybody goes healthy, the Realtors are absolutely competitive than the last Fiesta conference without doubt.
The addition of Gabby Espinas, Jason Misolas and Josh Urbiztondo will be a big help to Johnson, if ever he suits up, and to Sta. Lucia’s campaign.

Sa akin, hold off muna ung trades sa 2nd conf dahil may import naman tayo. W8 na lang tayo next year during draft at free agents din ngyon August.Hopefulyy may backer tayo financially para aasenso ang bench natin next AFC. For the import, OK ako na ibalik si AJ, kung healthy lang sina KWILL, Ryan, Yeo, Gabby and Bitoy, competitive naman tayo nxt conf. Kung may import na masmalaki ang katawan at parehong laro ni AJ din OK din, pero sa ngyon AJ is the best option. GO SLR, next conf. na man.

Simula nag di na default yung TNT sa game nila sa San Miguel nawalan na ako ng gana manood ng PBA kahit SLR pa naglalaro kasi ibig sabihin lang nun pag may nag violate ng rule magbabayad lang yung team ok na ulit review na lang rule na naviolate tapos ok na ang gara di ba? Di ako magtataka kung makakapasok pa ang TNT sa finals mayaman ata si MVP. ^_^

yes, I agree with you mokie. Pera pera lang talaga katapat ngayon, pag kikita ang PBA ok lang kahit may mag violate. Darating din araw na babalik sa kanila yung ginagawa nila (laws of karma), kawawa mga lowly teams pero makakabawi din yan. Sabi nga ni jinx013 sa akin mas gusto pa nya manalo coke papuntang championship kesa mga big teams though ang coke ay pagmamay-ari din ng San miguel. Pabor me pumasok sa finals Coke.

I agree that there be no trades muna for the second conference (especially si Bitoy Omolon, he’s definitely an asset to the team so hindi dapat sya i-trade ng team). Dapat siguro gawin ng team is to rethink yung nangyari this all filipino conference. Check kung saan ang weakness at tingnan kung ano pa pwede i-improve ng team. I also agree na tanggalin na sa team sila pacana, larong, benitez, waters and get a back-up point guard na maaasahan or isang back-up center na pamalit kay marlou dahil kulang ang team dun…I also support calls na kunin ulit si Anthony Johnson ng SLR for the next conference dahil subok na na si AJ, malas lang tayo last fiesta conference dahil nasa injury list si kelly williams that time (if not for that for sure, ganda sana chances ng SLR)…SLR management go for AJ and let go of non-performing and not-too dependable bench players. Coach Boyet, hope you’ll consider this opinion/advice.

Dapat sa team mag-practice sa kanilang mid range shooting at Free throw. Maliban kay Josh at Yeo, medyo inconsistent na ang naiwan, even si KWILL medyo walang consistency ung mid range shooting nya.
Sa next conf, AJ, KWILL, Bitoy, Joseph, Marlou, Ryan, Josh, Gabby, Kelvin at Daa. OK na yan, competitive na ulit.O sana naman subukan lang nila kahit isang conf, sina Asoro, Dino Daa at Topex, wala naman mawawala sa atin, tingin ko hindi rin sila masyado mahal.

Suggestion ko lang bago ang drafting sa August, paki-review lang po sa team management o support staff kung paano gaganda ang team. Sa tingin ko, wala tayong magaling na scout ( player scout ), sa tingin ko maymakuha pa tayong masmagaling pa nina Benitez, Waters , Jerby, Pacana, Misolas na pareho lang ang sweldo at talagang makatulong sa team.Bawi lang ulit sa next draft o free agency.

And then magkroon ng mga bago sa coaching staff para new ideas nmn hindi pa ulit ulit.And hanap tayo ng mkaka partner ng SLR na ibang company para mktulong at hindi kaawawa ang team natin.Abang tayo ng free agents this coming off season.

ano ba yan! Ang isang kasi dito wala na magandang sinabi sa team since mawala ung pinsan kuno nya na si cap. Ang PBA eh supported ng media commercially man o underground. Ni to the last minute wala tayo nababalitaan na nahihirapan na ang team pasahurin mga players nila at finacially bagsak na ang company. So ano karapatan mo para sabihin na mas maganda kung ibenta na lang team sa iba. Kundi ba naman talaga tanga ang tae na yan bakit kailangan nya isuggest un? kung talagang may malasakit ka support ang sabihin mo instead idemoralize mo sila.
Kilala mo kung sino ka ha. Paki sagot ng walang halong yabang.

i agree 007, slr has no economic downturn up to this day. Most company had suffered the recession last year but slowly everything is going smoothly to its old form one of them is our team so we should be happy that slr can stay longer in the pba with that.
So what is the problem of the insane guy who pretend that he is the cousin of cap to suggest that its better to sell the franchise of the team to other company?

Early Season Awards: recognizing the performers after the elimination round.
MVP: Kelly Williams – it’s a shame they got booted out early, as it puts an end to an outstanding conference and will negate his lead the Best Player of the Conference race. Unlike Arwind Santos, who gets a lot of support, he pretty much carried the team, leading the Realtors in scoring, rebounding, minutes, and highlight reel dunks. He also led the league in rebounding (14.6 rpg) and double doubles.
Best Rookie: Josh Urbiztondo – The Fireball is the surprise of the conference and is hoping to be the first undrafted player (not direct hires) to win ROY. Has cemented his spot as the starting PG for the Realtors and leads all rookies in scoring at 9.3 ppg. His bid is also jeopardized by the Realtor’s elimination.
Best Coach: Tim Cone – Longest tenured coach on 1 team still proves that the triangle offense is still a force to reckon with. This despite all these years, changes in personal, and evolving offensive and defensive schemes by opponents. The Aces started on fire and is again championship contenders.
Most Improved: (Tie) LA Tenorio, JC Intal – Former King Blue Eagles elevated their games this season. Tenorio has bloomed to be a solid, and a lot of times, spectacular starting PG for the Aces, often times single handedly leading Alaska to victories. Intal has seemed to have taken off after being stuck in the launch pad in Air 21. He has stepped up his game to make up for the many injuries in the Gin Kings lineup.
Comeback Player: Kelly Williams – Yes there is no such award but you have to recognize and appreciate his remarkable performance this year considering his career was in jeopardy just 6 months ago due to a rare blood-disorder. Expect him to return with a bang next conference.
Most Disappointing: Jay-R Reyes – Expected to be the franchise center for Rain Or Shine for years to come. Responded with 8.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg. This after renewing his contract before the start of the season. The passion and desire seems to have disappeared. Perhaps a change of scenery will help.
Wynnie Arbolada (Special mention) – No further explanation necessary. Clotheslines and attacking fans are for the WWE.

Mukhang wala na naman ginagawa ang management. Next conference at andyan pa rin sina Aquino at Mendoza wala na naman tayong future. Mukhang malakas talaga sa management etong dalawa kapag binigyan pa rin ng contract extension.
Mag-alaga kayo ng players iyong magaling nde iyong paswelduhan lang kahit walang nagagawang maganda sa team.

WHAT NOW?
After being eliminated from contention in the on-going PBA 2009 Philippine Cup, what is the next move of the Sta. Lucia Realtors?
Definitely the management will be busy this early in scouting for a more dynamic (Anthony Johnson) and less volatile (Lee Benson) import to fortify their lean frontline, but what else is expected from the team?
Multiple fan sources are requesting the management to be effectively involved in the bidding and acquisition of another big man to replace the slot vacated by the departure of Dennis Espino since it was clear as daylight that Gabby Espinas was more of a power-forward than a center and Kelly Williams is more effective coming from the wings to the shaded lane.
However, there are questions for the SLR to answer before these thing can materialize: Would they be willing to part with the personnel – including possibly Nelbert ‘Bitoy’ Omolon – to make a deal happen?
Do the Realtors have the resources to sign any quality bigman that could swell their payroll, such as Jay-R Reyes or Samigue Iman?
Do they even believe that there are some untapped talents in the league waiting for a chance to become the big difference for the team?
All questions with no clear answers for the Realtors – yet.
Nevertheless, the possibility of an athletic, offensive force has become too irresistible to easily dismiss. The Realtors were given two chances to advance into the quarterfinals, but in both games they blew it big because Marlou Aquino is not consistent enough and some of their guards were simply outplayed by their counterparts.
The import-laden conference may be months away, but there should be a sense of urgency at the head office. The Realtors need a young, athletic frontcourt complement for an aging Aquino. Despite taking a significant payroll cut by acquiring cheaper players (Jason Misolas and Chris Pacana) from the other teams, it’s become clearer to the Realtors that their frontline is still ill-equipped to overthrow the likes of the San Miguel Beermen, Talk N’ Text Phone Pals and Alaska Aces.
Coach Boyet Fernandez seemed to have maintained an interest in Barako Bull’s Leo Najorda and Ginebra’s reserve player, Homer Se. However, the management has yet to show a strong inclination to acquire these players before the next conference.
As painful as it would be for the franchise and fans, the Realtors could try to part with Omolon and his expiring contract to make a package work. What about burgeoning young center Rob Reyes?
Many league executives wonder, too: Would the Realtors be adverse to trading Omolon to a team they most often encounter at the bottom half of the standings? Perhaps, but they should understand that the market for Omolon is somewhat limited because so many teams already have resident personnel in the same position. But maybe the offer could become more palatable if they include Pacana, Paolo Mendoza, Ardy Larong and Charles Waters in the mix.

Sta. Lucia Realty team PBA governor Buddy Encarnado said Monday he sympathizes with the plight of the Smart-Gilas national team but he questioned the way how the top executives of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) conveyed their message to the team regarding plans to recruit one of Sta. Lucia’s top players.
SBP executive director Noli Eala told reporters the other day that he and Gilas coach Rajko Toroman would like to have Realtor Kelly Williams to shore up the team when Gilas begins its international campaign this year.
According to Encarnado, while he understands the predicament of Gilas, he said that by coming out in public without formal discussion with them puts direct pressure on the team.
He said there are many things to consider before a deal can be made to allow the 6-foot-7 Williams to play for the national team.
“I will discuss this first with management and to Kelly. I want to know their (Gilas) schedule,” Encarnado said. “From there we can probably see kung pwede. We have to balance siyempre yung team and yung pagiging patriotic natin.”
While he is open to discussion he said that by going to the press, the team and management feel some pressure.
“I’ve never talked to him (Eala) or coach Toroman,” Encarnado told the Bulletin in a phone interview.
“They’re putting pressure on us. All off a sudden, here they are coming out in public. Ayoko man tingnan ng ganun, pero may pressure na agad e.”
“I don’t think they want to pressure us, but the method… they’re feeling the waters. They should sit down with us first. Hindi ganito,” he added.
As much as SLR wants to help the national team, there are things that should be considered, like the calendar of events the RP team will be competing should not be in conflict with that of the PBA schedule and the kind of tournaments Gilas will be joining.
Eala reportedly wants Williams for this year’s Asian Games and the FIBA-Asia Championship next year, the qualifying event for the 2012 London Olympics.
Encarnado also said that there is an existing agreement between the PBA and the SBP that the SBP will not get any player from the pro league for the national team.

Heard from a news im not sure kung reliable sta.lucia is offering espinas and a player to be named sa isa sa mga SMC na teams mas mbba daw ang salary nito kumpara kay espinas pero dis player daw has a lot of potential na di masyado na bibigyan ng break ng mother team niya at legit center daw ito. Its almost ok na daw ang deal wait na lang tayo mga fans ng team this coming days.I do hope na kung cno mn ang kukunin natin could help the team right away.Kasi c omolon daw ayaw bitawan ni boss buddy at ng top honchos ng SLR.

After a painful exit in the Philippine Cup, Sta. Lucia is ready to get back on track by tapping an old reliable import in Anthony Johnson for the next tournament.
The 6-foot-6 Johnson led the Realtors to a quarterfinal stint in the Fiesta Conference last season, his solid performance enough to make him Sta. Lucia’s first choice for the coming import-flavored tilt.
“The good thing about Anthony Johnson is the energy he brings every game. He’s also no stranger to the things that we’re doing,” Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez told GMANews.TV
Johnson actually first played for the Coca-Cola Tigers in 2007-08, but was replaced in the elimination round. The following season, it was the Realtors’ turn to get his services.
The Realtors are coming off a heartbreaking campaign in the Philippine Cup. They were a win away from an outright quarterfinal berth, but suddenly found themselves taking an early vacation in the company of Barako Bull, Burger King and Coca-Cola.
Once leading by six games over Rain or Shine and Coca-Cola, the Realtors surprisingly got booted out early after crucial losses.
They battled Purefoods for an outright quarterfinals berth, but lost and got relegated to the knockout wildcard phase.
Feeling the fatigue, the no. 6 seed Realtors played the no. 9 Elasto Painters and lost steam, 86-90, to eventually bow out of the tournament.
“We played back-to-back games and those games were both exhausting matches,” said Fernandez. “There were opportunities for us to get into the quarterfinals, but there were several factors that hindered our chances.”
Fernandez said that had San Miguel Beer’s protest against Talk ‘N Text been upheld, Sta. Lucia would have had a better chance of making it to the quarterfinals. Instead, the Realtors were forced to fight it out for a place in the quarters.
“We cannot do anything about it. That’s the decision of the commissioner so we have to live with it,” said Fernandez, who steered the Realtors to the 2007-2008 Philippine Cup crown. – GMANews.TV

If totoo ang news before that Devonn Harp is a true filipino. Then why not trying to get his services. With Devonn Harp in our lineup, solve na ang center position naten. Very dependable defender at scorer si Harp sa ilalim that would ease the pressure on Kelly Williams.

@rapsapapa . Asoro and Sena ay pwede, kung talagang gusto ng management. C Najorda medyo mahirap pakawalan ng barako, kasi mas-versatile c Najorda vs Espinas. Diba malapit na matapos ang ABL, pwede din natin subukan sina Wainright? Gaco? Andaya? Warren? for 1 conference lang.

To coach boyet and sir buddy I am a die hard SLR fan. Anyway may I suggest that you must not trade bitoy omolon, si misolas na lang and larong or benitez or maybe marlou para kay homer se or leo najorda and maybe it would help in your financial status if let go of mendoza, jaime and del rosario and re activate kelvin gregorio to the team and if possible to trade pacana for denok miranda siguro kung ganito ang team ninyo sa fiesta cup malamang malaki ang tsansa plus import AJ. Maintain Kelly, ryan, bitoy, gabby, josh and the ninja yeo they are all effective players gud luck sa slr next conference.

killboy ok idea mo pero mukang di pwede ung 10 local players lang much better 12 local players plus import. un ang tamang numbers of players ng 1 team. mukang nabawasan na tayo si jerby del rosario, dapat i trade na lang si bitoy omolon talaga sa first round pick para maging 12 players na lang. sa off season na lang kumuha ng quality bigmen mas makakapili pa tayo. aquino and johnson magiging center natin muna.

dis agree di pa naman naghihirap siguro ang team para kumuha lang ng 10 players, kaya pa nga magpa sweldo ng 17 eh……. the total players of a basketball team are 15. 12 active and 3 reserve pero pwede mag adjust to 2 reserve lang. sila williiams,reyes and yeo ang nakapang hihinayang na mawala. san kayang team mapupunta si omolon?
i think mas maganda kung sa ginebra na lang i trade kay homer se and 1st round pick. pero done deal na daw at pirma na lang ang kulang rapsapapa right? omolon to sharma plus 1st round pick. sa tingin ko may kasama si omolon sa trade nato dapat si mendoza or jaime na lang. kung matuloy………. i trade na din si daa kay najorda…………..

walang kapalit kasi nilagay siya ng SMB sa reserve list nung inactivate nila si danny seigle kaya naging free agent siya meaning nasa roster pa rin siya ng SMB pero kapag may kumuha sa kanya nasa kanya kung papayag siya.. ang nakakapagtaka lang tayo yung nangangailangan ng center hindi man lang sila kumilos na makuha si eman alam ko naman na aware sila sa mga nangyayari sa PBA kasi kung iisipin may sonny thoss ang alaska at bata pa naman kumabaga pamalit lang din si eman kung nag offer SLR sa kanya sigurado hindi tatangi yun kasi mabibigyan talaga siya ng playing time sa atin.. sa tingin ko pinipiga nila si marlou siguro malaki pa rin pinapasahod nila sa kanya.. hahay sayang nakakapanghinayang..

WHILE the San Miguel Beermen continue to get better, the Alaska Aces just got a lot bigger.
Alaska Aces General Manager Joaqui Trillo announced that 6? 9? behemoth Samigue Eman will join the Alaska Aces to form a triple tower combination with 6’7” center Sonny Thoss and 6’7” forward Joe Devance.
“Let me tell you something — height is might as they say. At the start, I think that Sam may not do so well until he learns our system. But when I got him I told him, ‘Sam we will be focusing on you. Our assistant coaches and coach Tim (Cone) will monitor your progress and help you. They’re going to put you on a weight training program, do big man drills. But be patient because you will become a better player with us,’” said Trillo.
Alaska coach Tim Cone echoed Trillo’s assessment that Alaska could form an imposing frontline with Eman, Thoss and Devance all playing at the same time.
“We saw Sam to be a big man that we felt that would not only back up Sonny (Thoss), but even more important he could play alongside Sonny. We really envision Sam and Sonny playing together a lot. Sam did not have a spot with San Miguel because the roster is so deep,” said Cone.
“We will give them that opportunity to come in and play. We feel the triangle is a great developer of big men because it demands that big men use their skills. And so I think Sam has a big opportunity to develop with us and we will assist him and give minutes to play.”
The Alaska team manager said he saw a lot of untapped potential in Eman.
“I saw a lot of him while he played in the PBL and at the time he was much more advanced than Sonny. But you know, Sam’s a hardworking guy. He seems to be pretty decent guy. He seems to be a hard worker and he assures us that he will do anything it takes to be able to play quality minutes,” said Trillo.
“We were willing to give him a three-year contract because I think his contract is expiring very soon. Besides we will give him a chance to play regularly. Because I think he’s concerned that if does not get to play, his game and confidence will deteriorate. And so we were very happy that he said yes to us.”
Cone explained that Eman will be able for the Aces only in the second conference.
“The lineups of the four teams in the semifinals are basically frozen right now. So, obviously we cannot include him in our lineup. But this is a real opportunity because we got him about a month before the next conference. So, we will have the chance to teach him our system, develop him with our practices and to teach him our triangle. So it’s really good timing for us because it gives us time for him to come in and learn.”

Baket ang teams na malalakas lalo pang lumalakas? At marunong silang mag-alaga ng mga players nila.
Baket ang team ng SLR mahina na nga lalo pang humihina? Ang sagot nila SALARY CAP PROBLEMS.
SMB, ALASKA AND PUREFOODS…almost all of their 12 players ay nasa maximum salary na. At walang SALARY CAP PROBLEM.
Samantalang ang SLR, first five lang naten ang nasa almost maximum salary na and yet tayo pa ang may SALARY CAP PROBLEM.

SAM EMAN was traded to ALASKA, it is still unclear kung sino ang kapalit nya, pero mukha wala daw yta. Nkakatawa nmn, sana sa mas mahinang team na lng cya binigay tulad ng SLR, wala tlagang kwentang liga ang PBA,hindi balance ang mga teams, sobrang galing na ng SMB, ALASKA, GINEBRA, TNT, PUREFOODS and yung mga mahihirap na team like BARAKO, SLR hindi makuha ng magagaling ng players. hay pinoy nga nmn… SONNY BARRIOS, matanda ka na, a human wont last forever, better do GOOD things while you can. Better correct the corrupt way of managing the PBA!

eman ! wala po itong ibubuga kaya binitawan ng smb kaya wag na kayong manghinayang. sa tingin ko gumagawa naman ng move ang slr. si marlou need pa ng team lalo na may import, pero dapat na tong bitawan sa off season. makakakuha din tayo ng center. ang dapat i trade si omolon and mendoza together to sharma or se plus 1st round pick. mas ok naman siguro alin sa dalawa makuha natin may future pick pa tayo.

Si Eman ay di pinakawalan ng SMB, napunta sya sa Reserved list (free agent) dahil active na ulit si Danny I & Danny S. Si Eman mismo ang umalis sa SMB, matagal nya na gustong umalis sa San Miguel kaso nakumbinsi sya ng mga taga SMB na wag umalis. Na acquire sya ng Alaska nong January pa pero di nakapag release ng news ang Alaska kasi at that time me contract pa si Eman sa San Miguel kaya ngayon lang ito lumabas kc nakapag sign na ng contract si Eman sa Alaska. Kaya nga naiinis ako sa Management ng SLR sa kadami-daming quality players na makukuha sa Free Agent Pool ung mga walang kwenta ang kinukuha. Kala ko nga makukuha nila si Se or si Cabatu buti na lang si Josh nakaka score talaga kahit papano pero ung iba nilang nasa active roster hayz na lang tataas ang alta presyon ko sa kaiisip.

Meralco set to buy Barako franchise in PBA

Nearly 40 years after disbanding its basketball team, Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is eyeing a return to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) next season.
Negotiations are under way for the purchase of Barako Bull franchise by Meralco, now owned by the group of telecommunication tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan, according to informed sources.
“There have been initial talks,” said the source who wished not to be named. “Meralco could take over the Barako Bull franchise starting next season.”
Meraclo, the largest electric distributor in the country, is a private firm controlled by Pangilinan’s Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Metro Pacific Investment Corp. and Piltel Group (50.3 percent).
San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and Global 5000 Investment also have a 43 percent stake with Meralco with the First Philippine Holdings owning 6.7 percent shares.
Pangilinan owns the Talk ‘N Text basketball team in the PBA, while San Miguel has three teams, Ginebra, Purefoods TJ, and San Miguel Beer.
Although the deal could be completed before or during the PBA Fiesta Cup, the source said there would be no major changes at Barako Bull.
“The alignment and changes will happen next season,” the source said.
Calls to Raffy Castao, Barako Bull’s representative to the PBA board, were not returned.
Meralco is one of the original teams of the now defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA).
Among its players then were Robert Jaworski, Big Boy Reynoso, Francis Arnaiz and Orly Bauzon.
Before Toyota came into the picture, Meralco, then owned by the Lopez family of ABS-CBN, was the great rival of the legendary Crispa Redmanizers in MICAA.
The rivalry reached boiling point in 1971 when Jaworski and Reynoso attacked referees Eriberto Cruz and Jose Obias in protest over dubious calls. The game was stopped with Crispa ahead, 65-50.
Jaworski and Reynoso were banned for life by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) but were reinstated in 1973.
Meralco disbanded in 1972 with majority of its players absorbed by the Silverio-owned company Komatsu Comets (later to be known as Toyota).
The possible return of Meralco is seen to add glamour and history to a league struggling to keep fans’ interest amid hard times.
Reports of Barako Bull’s financial difficulties began as early as 2008, but the franchise owned by businessman George Chua managed to stay with the league.
At the start of the current conference, Talk ‘N Text and Coca-Cola agreed to loan their players to the Energy Boosters, but reports of delayed release of players’ salaries persisted.
Alex Crisano, Barako Bull’s veteran center, confirmed the delay during the SCOOP forum weeks ago, a statement that did not draw reaction from the team.

OMOLON TRADE TALKS PICK UP AGAIN
When everyone thought that the rumor will die a natural death after it did not push through weeks ago, a source reported that negotiations has picked up again.
Both camps are trying to play it hard when the Sta. Lucia Realtors won’t budge after the Burger King Whoopers offered either Carlo Sharma or JR Quiñahan in exchange for Nelbert Omolon. The Whoopers are even floating the idea that they are willing to give a future first round draft pick in the mix, but the Realtors reportedly thinks that their 6’4″ forward is worth more than that.
In fact, the source reported that the SLR management is adamant that they don’t need another big man, but instead wanted another player playing the same position as Omolon. The player they are trying to acquire is no other than bruising rookie forward Ronnie Matias. Coach Yeng Guiao thinks that Matias should not be traded at this time because the player has still lots of untapped potential in him. This strong stance by Coach Guiao is what stalled the initial negotiation.
However, talks begun to circulate that the negotiation started to pick up again. It was rumored that the Whoopers are now ready to let go of Matias for Omolon. There were no mention yet if there are other considerations being included in the one-on-one deal, but there might be cash and draft picks involved as well.
During the elimination round of the Philippine Cup, Matias averaged 7.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He also had a decent 50 percent average from the 3-point area and 49.1 percent from the 2-point range. Omolon, on the other hand, averaged 8.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He only shoot 28.0 percent from long-distance and 43.7 percent in the shaded area.

FACING THE UNCERTAIN
When the Fiesta Conference starts, most of the public’s attention will be devoted to figuring out who has paraded the most explosive import on its roster. But there’s another prominent side-issue that will attract a lot of interest from the league and this is about who among the key players has changed teams.
Nelbert Omolon had the Sta. Lucia Realtors contending in the semis in the last two years. However, his inconsistent performance was one of the reasons being considered as a factor that led to the early ouster of the team from the on-going Philippine Cup Conference. This led many sources to say they wouldn’t be surprised if the athletic shooting forward leaves the team that molded him, specifically to sign with one of the top three teams.
The Realtors perch at the bottom half of the standings in the 2010 Philippine Cup would like to keep the prolific albeit inconsistent player for another year or two, but rival team executives think it is wise to entertain trade offers at this time while Omolon is still at the prime of his career.
With Omolon, do-everything forward Kelly Williams, All-Star guard Ryan Reyes and sixth man candidate Joseph Yeo, the Realtors have assembled their youngest and explosive team since barging into the pro-league in 1993 with Vegel Meneses and Zandro Limpot playing in their prime.
One of the reasons why the Realtors are often overlooked is that their franchise players has little interest in the spotlight. They turned down numerous marketing opportunities and was overshadowed by bigger stars of popular teams. The same thing can be said about Omolon, who averaged about 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in the on-going Philippine Cup.
He enjoyed playing under the radar and does not grab too much attention. But he just play the game the right way and kind of go about his own business.
But Omolon also is one of the game’s most proven scorers. Letting him walk would be a big risk for the Realtors. Unless, they can get a quality big man in return that can combine talents with Williams and Marlou Aquino to create the most potent frontline in the league.

For Sta. Lucia Realty board representative Manuel “Buddy” Encarnado, the idea of Meralco or the Manila Electric Company joining the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will be a good development to the league.
That is if indeed, Meralco is planning to join the league.
Last Wednesday, the Barako Bull representative to the PBA board said there is no ongoing negotiation regarding the possible purchase of the franchise by Meralco.
“We have no idea about it. There are no talks with Meralco or any other company. We’re staying,” said Raffy Casyao, the Barako Bull representative.
But The Bulletin source, who requested anonymity because of the delicate nature of the negotiation, reconfirmed that there had been talks, though still in the early stages.
Though Encarnado likes the idea of Meralco playing in the PBA, he hopes that Barako Bull stays on and continues to play in the league.
“I want Meralco in by all means. But as a board member, as much as possible, I want Barako Bull to stay,” Encarnado told the Bulletin in a phone interview Thursday, reacting to a report that Meralco is eyeing a return to basketball.
Should the two camps agree to terms, the PBA board, currently chaired by Burger King’s Lito Alvarez, have to approve it “by a simple majority vote and five (teams) will do.”
The PBA has 10 teams, but only nine can vote.
Purefoods, which belongs to San Miguel Corp. (SMC) together with San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra, regularly joins the board deliberations but it has no voting rights.
Meralco, the largest electric power distributor in the country, is a private firm controlled by the companies of business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan through the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the Metro Pacific Investment Corp. and Piltel Group (50.3 percent).
SMC and Global 5000 Investment also have a 43 percent stake with Meralco, while the First Philippine Holdings owning 6.7 percent shares.
Talk ’N Text is owned by Pangilinan’s company.
“It’ll have to be approved by the board. Regardless of the personalities involved, every new franchise will have to be approved. The board will have to scrutinize it. A board approval is imperative,” Encrnado said.
“Whether or not they (Meralco) will be buying a new franchise, or buy the franchise of Barako Bull, that’s all together another story. It’s between them,” he added.
The possibility, though, of having Meralco looks good for Encarnado.
“Considering that it’s Meralco, and considering its track record both in the MICAA and the PABL, it’s a good development,” he said.

Freeman leads ‘balik-imports’ in PBA Fiesta tilt

Former Best Import Gabe Freeman of San Miguel Beer will bring his act anew along with other “balik-imports” when the Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Conference opens shop on March 20.

Freeman is currently in town playing for the Philippine Patriots in the Asean Basketball League finals and he’ll be hooking up with the Beermen after his stint in the fledging league.
Also set to return for a tour of duty in the PBA are Jai Lewis for Rain or Shine, Anthony Johnson for Sta. Lucia and Chris Porter for Ginebra.
Lewis steered the Elasto Painters to their first-ever semifinals stint in the league last season. The burly but shifty Lewis is a former teammate of Gabe Norwood with the George Mason University Patriots in the US NCAA, who went all the way to the Final Four.
Johnson will be on his third outing in the country. An energetic player who plays solid at both ends of the court, Johnson first played for the Coca-Cola Tigers in 2007 but was replaced by Jeff Varem. The following year, he was picked up by Sta. Lucia and suited up for the Realtors in the Brunei Cup and the Fiesta Conference.
Porter, on the other hand, played for the Gin Kings in the 2005-06 season. He piloted the team to the semis but went a game short of reaching the championship round after losing to James Penny and the Red Bull Barakos in Game 7 of the semis.
But while teams are bringing in old faces, Coca-Cola has decided to shop around for a young reinforcement.
The Tigers are now looking at Jason Forte, brother of former Boston Celtics and Seattle Supersonics guard Joseph Forte.
Coca-Cola coach Bo Perasol revealed that Forte is now in town to try to land a spot in the team.
“He agreed to come here and paid his own travel ticket just to tryout for a spot in the team,” said Perasol of Forte. “There’s no guarantee yet. We will evaluate him.” – GMANews.TV

Alaska owner Fred Uytengsu: SMC is harassing Samigue Eman
Got another interesting email in my inbox this morning. This time, it’s from Alaska team owner and former PBA chairman Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, who wrote in with his thoughts on this blog, and an update on his team’s acquisition of Samigue Eman from San Miguel. (No, he did not mind me calling his team’s moves ‘wacky’.)
Here’s his email, in full:
Congratulations on your blog. I was recently introduced to it and spent some time reading your comments over the past couple of weeks. I must say it is refreshing to see the reporting as blunt and candid as yours is.
It might also interest you to note that SMC has continued to harass Samigue Eman. He was summoned to the Commissioner’s Office yesterday only to be surprised by a couple of SMC lawyers interrogating him. Needless to say this is unprofessional and underhanded. Apparently the PBA Excom now wants to review the “technicality” of us signing him even after the PBA approved such a transaction.
Alaska has always followed the rules and conduct ourselves with upmost integrity. The fact of the matter is SMC took the risk by placing Sam on reserve and he agreed to join us. If SMC really wanted him, why did he only play 8 games in his first year, 12 games in his second year and 0 this conference?! And what was this about a “back door” trade with Burger King only to be dealt to Ginebra eventually. Perhaps another sham trade.
I’ve been in this business for 24 years (longer than any team owner in the PBA) and I have to say, the conduct of the league (and certain teams) appear to be deteriorating at an alarming rate.

Curiously, Fidel Mangonon reported on his Twitter account last weekend that some people connected to San Miguel bore ill will towards Eman after his abrupt transfer.
Alaska coach Tim Cone reacted to the issue by pointing out that Eman has been rotting on San Miguel’s bench the past couple of years, and that he can’t keep waiting forever for a chance to play: “Seems to me that SMB was not that concerned about keeping him around. The young man is 27 and needs to play. How long does he wait? 22 or 23 is ‘young’ in the PBA and demands patience, but by 27 you are entering the prime of your career. Patience runs thin.”
Boy, San Miguel must have been really peeved to go after Eman. Why even bother, at this point? Talk about a dick move.
UPDATE: Mangonon reports on Twitter that PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios talked about the issue with press people this afternoon, and that he upheld Eman’s move to Alaska. Barrios also said that the people who met Eman were not SMC lawyers, but PBA lawyers.
According to Mangonon’s source at Alaska, SMC just wanted to clarify if any of the PBA teams’ gentlemen’s agreements about player movements weren’t violated.
Of course, last month, after a brouhaha involving the protest of a delayed game against Talk N Text, San Miguel said that they didn’t really protest, they just wanted “clarification”.
Sure they did.

Mga Manglulupa, kita ko sa lineup ng PBL teams sina Asoro at Sena. Nakapagtaka talaga kung bakit hindi sila subukin ng SLR. Dpat ba hintayin ng SLR na ibang team ang kukuha nila ang dong sila magblossom na superstar? Hay, may players naman tayo na hindi naglalaro, walang tulong,pero may mga amateur standouts na hindi kinuha.
Kung walang wala talaga silang budget,pasabi naman ng SLR mgmt na ang team na lang ang bibilhin ng Meralco.Sorry ha, pero frustrating talaga, walang aksyon.

Congrats sa Purefoods for entering the finals, sa palagay ko, nanalo sila dahil sa Defense. Good job naman sa SMB, ang downfall lang ng SMB ay marami silang superstar, walang combinasyon ang nakita ni Coach Tanq na nagclick.
Dapat talaga si AJ ang kunin ng SLR dahil subok na siya last year, kung hindi lang na-injure si KWILL, sa palagay ko pasok na sila sa Semis. Good Luck SLR, malapit naman kaming fans nyo na makita kayo maglaro next conf.

MANILA, Philippines – Former MVP winners Willie Miller, James Yap and Kelly Williams were among six players who emerged as official candidates for the Best Player of the Conference honors in the all-Filipino tourney which is about to end.
Arwind Santos, Joe De Vance and Mark Cardona also made the list, becoming contenders for the coveted award won last year by Miller.
With the statistical points (SPs) race over, the six players now dispute the BPC plum through balloting.
Based on the average SPs churned out by the players from the eliminations through the semis, Williams is on top with 40.6 points per game, followed by Santos (35.4), Miller (31.0), De Vance (31.7) and Cardona (30.7).
Yap failed to make the Top Five but was included in the candidates list for being the stats leader of his Purefoods Giants team, which reached the tournament finals.
Yap, the 2006 MVP winner, landed at No. 8 overall with Kerby Raymundo being the next best-placed Purefoods player at No. 13.
Raymundo was in the Top Five after the elims.
Narrowly missing the Top Five were LA Tenorio (29.8) and Gabe Norwood (29.0).
The Best Player of the Conference will be named before Game Four of the KFC PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven series. – Nelson Beltran

Sta. Lucia Realty is still negotiating with former import Anthony Johnson to be the Realtors’ reinforcement in the PBA Fiesta Cup.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, the 6-foot-5 Johnson played for Sta. Lucia in the previous Fiesta Cup averaging 28.7 points – including 43 points in one of his games – with 17.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2 blocks per game.
“We are negotiating with him,” SLR coach Boyet Fernandez confirmed. “He’s currently playing in Korea and he’ll be finished playing there March 8.”
The teams are allowed to get an import with a height limit of 6-foot-6 in the Fiesta Cup, which opens March 21.
With the high-leaping Johnson, a former Louisiana-Lafayette standout, the Realtors made it to the quarterfinals. Injuries to key players like Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes proved crucial as they lost to the Purefoods Giants, 2-1, in a shortened three-game series.
“We want him back after what happened (last conference). It was not his fault. We lost because of injuries and sickness to our players. I hope he’s in shape and ready to play.”
Sta. Lucia lost to Rain or Shine, 90-86 in the first round of the knockout wildcard of the ingoing Philippine Cup. They finished the classification round with a 10-8 record.
Teams already with imports in the Fiesta Cup are defending champion San Miguel Beer with returning Best Import winner Gabe Freeman, Rain or Shine with Jai Lewis, Ginebra with Awvee Storey and Air21 with Leroy Hickerson.

Hatfield to the rescue

MANILA, Philippines – Rudy Hatfield will end almost a three-year leave from the PBA and resume playing for Barangay Ginebra in the coming Fiesta Conference starting March 21.
After losing to Alaska in a 4-0 series sweep in the recent Philippine Cup semifinals, the Kings could use a fiery rebounder like Hatfield to get back in title contention. He will be a vital piece in the puzzle that coach Joseph Uichico is consolidating for the future.
Hatfield’s agent Bill Rosmarino confirmed yesterday that the H-Bomb from the University of Michigan at Dearborn has signed a one-year contract with Ginebra and will arrive from the US late March.
“Rudy is already preparing his body for battle,” said Rosmarino. “I’m just so excited. This has been nearly three years of waiting. It will be so nice to watch, as a Hatfield fan, the new improved 110 percent version. With his new mindset, rest and heart, you can only imagine what Rudy will do on the court for Ginebra.”
Hatfield, 32, took a leave of absence from Ginebra in 2007 for personal reasons. The 6-6 power forward, whose mother is Filipina, has played six years in the PBA, averaging 13.4 points and 10.8 rebounds.
In an exclusive STAR interview, Hatfield vowed to return with a bang.
“Don’t think for one second I’m gonna walk on the floor and let anyone walk all over me,” he said. “I’m comin’ to play. I’m comin’ to wrestle. And I’m comin’ to win. There’s nothing new to expect. I don’t have any new moves. I haven’t been given some miraculous pill that has me flying out of the gym and I won’t suddenly become a pure shooter. What you will see is me diving on the floor again, running up and down like a caged animal that has just been let loose and 110 percent of tenacious intensity.””
Hatfield said he is well informed about developments in the PBA and can’t wait to play for the Kings.
“What an awesome time playing for Ginebra is going to be,” he continued. “I’ve been following the PBA since I left and I definitely know what’s going on. I remember telling Eric (Menk) about J. C. (Intal) while he was at Ateneo and saying, ‘Look at the hops on this guy.’ It looks as if he’s become more than just a leaper.”
Hatfield said he has kept in shape playing in leagues but admitted he’s not in PBA condition at the moment.
“I plan on being ready,” he went on. “The good thing is I still weigh the same as when I left so I won’t have to worry about getting rid of extra weight. You know, if anything, I’ll be in shape. Maybe not as good right away but I’ll surely be able to get up and down the floor.”
Since leaving the country, Hatfield said he has found new meaning in his life with wife Bethany and their two children Bella, 5, and Lylah, 1, embracing the Christian faith.
For about 10 days last November, Hatfield quietly came to town for missionary work with the Northridge Church of Plymouth, Michigan. He visited schools, staged puppet shows for kids, conducted basketball clinics and delivered personal testimonials. Two highlights of Hatfield’s brief visit were explaining to kids a fun way to remember the 10 commandments and providing disaster relief for typhoon Ondoy victims.
“After about a year of researching, speaking with God, receiving so many signs and just putting myself out there to believe, I was finally saved,” he said. “My old life was put to death and I was reborn. I now truly believe that Jesus Christ is our Savior, that if we believe in His death for our sins, His resurrection as ourselves being resurrected into a new life and that He is the way, truth and the life. By all means, I still sin, I still make mistakes and I have a long, painful journey to go before I’m made into the perfect image of Jesus. But at least I know I can repent and be forgiven and I focus everyday on getting closer to God.”
Hatfield said his wife and daughters will make periodic visits to Manila while he’s playing in the PBA.
“It will be a great opportunity for my daughters to see a different culture especially for Lylah (who is part Filipino),” he said. “I want my kids to see where their father spent the majority of his growing years.”
As for how long he plans to play, Hatfield said it’s up to the Lord.
“Right now, the thought is to play until God tells me it’s time to move on,” he said. “I don’t know exactly how long it will be. But what I do know is for the last three years, I’ve been trying to find a purpose for my life, wondering what God made me for. For about three years, I tried to fool myself that I wasn’t made for basketball. I do know now that God gave me a gift and maybe I’m not the most talented basketball player but he gave me something that gets the job done.”

sa totoo lang tama ang sabi ni Dino dto dti bago lang po ako sa site na ito matagal na din ako fan ng SLR.If you would look at our line up halos mga rag tag team lang ang mga players natin imagine Larong Benitez Pacana Misolas Waters Daa this are the players maski ng College at PBL days nila halos never heard.Pano tayo mag cchmapion with these players i feel sorry for kelly joseph bitoy ryan josh and gabby sayang ang effort nila.Whats wrong with the managment nalulugi na ba nag team with this kind of players no need to ans. it simply shows we have no money to hire good players that could help our team win a championship again.There are companies out there who wants to join the PBA Mr. Exi Robles,Buddy Encarnado evaluate things kung sa tingin ninyo na hindi na kaya mag maintain ng team try something new for d sake of the team.

Good evening guys its been quite a while na since i last visited.Thankyou for all your support during the last conference unfortunately for us we came up short.We are in the middle of negotiations with A.J but we do have options if in case AJ couldnt make it.The team needs a scoring import who could play the 4 and 5 postion.Bitoy is still with us again i will not trade him he is a vital player to us.Hope that this coming conference would be fruitfull for us just keep on praying and supporting our team.Ingat po sa inyong lahat.

CLUES FROM THE TRADING BLOCK
While Purefoods and Alaska are still contesting the All Filipino crown, the 8 other squads are slowly starting the preparations for the Fiesta Conference which opens on March 21st. And to make sure they’ll be the ones in the finals for next conference, several teams are naturally seeking ways to buff up their roster.
In fact two playoffs teams that were at odds with each other have smoked the peace pipe and are negotiating a blockbuster deal which could send a player known for his patented move for a player who amazes with his hang time. That same popular team is also trying to bate this one player who was traded recently and an energy guy from another team as an alternate plan if plan A won’t push through.
These two teams are also discussing the possibility of trading two players in the forward position. A Fil-Am for a former collegiate standout? This is not a priority but if the offer is there, both are willing to give it a go.
While Mr. Patented move and the Fil-am forward are in the market, a streak shooter and a center from that same squad are also reportedly going back to their previous turf. In exchange, a former free agent who proved to be a brawny banger and a wide center with a nice shooting touch from mid range will be donning new colors. This will be the center’s 3rd team in the PBA.
And speaking of centers, one team which had a late surge in the standings before bowing out of the playoffs is now open for negotiations for their star center. Nothing is final yet with whom they’ll be trading with because they’re weighing out their options. This could mean whatever is being offered right now is not enough. They’re also trying to find a way to get a former PBA player back in the league which could improve their perimeter game.

ibenta na lang ang team bago mag ka hiwahiwalay pa ang mga paborito natin na mga players.Its hard to admit db?! pero it is happening kung titignan ninyo ang mga pwede mangyari sa totoo lang ang kulang lang natin is center thats it pero ngayon ang core na ng team ang isa isa inaalis hindi nag uupgrade ng line up kundi down grade pa tayo.Ok lang i release or i trade si pacana,misolas,daa,waters,larong kahit wala na nga kapalit ok lang e tapos isang center lang pero ngayon halos lahat ang tinatanggal iyong star players natin.Cap,denok,norman at ngayon yeo,omolon,espinas at most probably reyes (energy guy).

Kung totoo man ang trade. Paborito talaga ng management sina Marlou Aquino at Paolo Mendoza. Untouchables sila pareho. Biruin mo mga maximum salary pero wala naman nagagawang maganda for TEAM SLR. Iyong mga players na tumulong sa atin to get the all filipino championship, iyon pa ang mga nasa trading block. Sana mag-isip isip nman ang management about this. Hinde iyong puro LOYALTIES na lang gustong mangyari sa team.

Good day to all of you ive heard a lot of rumors this past few day’s about the status of my team and my players.I have to admit that a couple of teams offered players to us in exchange of bitoy but as what i have said and boss buddy no way we would let him go.We might add and give away our few of our players but id rather not to mention it kung kailangan po para gumanda ang team gagawin namin na maski masakit para sa amin na makita sila umalis above all its about the sake of the team we have to make a move para maka survive ang team or else our faith will be the same with the others.From time to time i wil update all of you it would be a very busy 24hrs. for the team sa lahat po sana wag kayo mag sawa supportahan ang team.

STA. Lucia Realty has officially rehired 6’6” high-leaping import Anthony Johnson to lead the Realtors to a successful campaign in the coming 35th Philippine Basketball Association Fiesta Conference.
Santa Lucia Realtors mentor Boyet Fernandez, who led the team to its first ever 2008 Philippine Cup, confirmed to The Manila Times that the returning Johnson will arrive on March 14 to join the team’s practices and scrimmages.
“Yup, everything is formally sealed and he’s [Johnson] coming back,” said Fernandez, noting also that he will stick to his previous local roster. “We will rely on our same players plus the import.”
Meanwhile, Air21 team governor Lito Alvarez also confirmed on Wednesday that 6’9” Yancy de Ocampo and Renren Ritualo are all set to reunite with the Express after completing a five-man player deal with Talk ‘N Text.

Kung ganito pa rin ang lineup ng SLR next conference. Masasayang na naman ang all around effort ni Kelly Williams at ang kanyang ambition na makapag MVP ulet.
Mas lalong magkakaproblema ang SLR kung si Kelly Williams na mismo ang magpatrade sa ibang team na gusto niya.
Kasi nga nman with these kind of lineup ng SLR, wala talaga siyang mararating.

From a very reliable source, mas nag-iinvest daw ngayon ang SLR na makapagpatayo ng hospital. Maybe that is the reason why kung baket puro bench players lang ang kinukuha nila.

I’ve never liked Enrico’s style of play, i even think he’s overrated. But this is a good deal kung totoo yung trade between Espinas/Pacana for E-Vill. We are really in need of a Center.

It could be Buenafe becuause they were traded for each other last conference, now they get to play with each other. Ang malabo lang yung “mercenary”. Kasi walang connection ito kay Buenafe. Kay Yeo meron kasi pede mo i-equate ang “mercenary” to “ninja”. Also bear in mind SLR traded Mark Isp and Ceasr Catli for Yeo. So I think there was a period where Yeo and Cabagnot played with each other.
Personally I don’t want to see Yeo go. He was clutch the past 2 conferences. May mga games na cya nag dadala. He is also a good playmaker in a sense that he pentrates, draws attention to the defense, then dishes off. Sana tlaag nde cya.
But if it is him, I think the main reason is again economics. he re-signed with a big contract at the start of the season.

Yung Espinas for E-Vill and Pacana. Wishful thinking pero I have my doubts. It has only been mentioned here and no where else. It’s not brought up by Patricia Hizon or Than of forum.pba.ph. Atsaka alam nating lahat maraming nanggugulo
. Still if this has some truth to it, its a good move. Espinas is a good rebounder and you don’t want him let go but you need to give up quality to get quality. Hindi tayo SMC eh heheheh.

derkpans tama ka, Yeo and Cabagnot did play together in COKE, during the 2nd confy cabagnot and miranda were traded for each other. If Patricia B. Hizon is referring to YEO, well she had a mistake saying they were traded for each other.
Just for the Record guys:
(2nd confy before the yeo trade)
Cabagnot + Duremdes + Calimag was traded to coke for Miranda + Ramos
(offseason before the AFC2008 SLR won the championship)
Catli + Isip was trade to coke for J. Yeo
Cabagnot and Buenafe play together for COKE and Burger King, but they were never traded for each other, or traded together.
Cabagnot was traded for Gary david… so?
SMB- are they still inside a PBA’s team budget?

@reggie – dun din ako naguguluhan sa ‘traded together’ eh. me isang conference ang pagitan ng trade ni Denok at Alex, and yung kay Yeo…so, maiksi din ang time na nakapaglaro si Alex at Yeo.
Kung nakalaro ni Alex, si Buenafe ang pinakamalapit na pwedeng natutukoy, pero ang pinauulit ulit na keyword ‘mercenary’. Unless Assasin ang tinutukoy at ang trade eh SMB-Air21. Maaring Tugade – Buenafe, pero malabong mangyari ata yun.

It’s so funny kasi kahit gahaman na sa players ang SMB hindi pa rin sila ang nagchampion last AFC. PBA nga nmn.

I hope SLR will hire ALEX CRISANO, instead of trading our “FEW” key players. With CRISANO, SLR will be taller, and he can also bring intensity inside the court. If Ginebra have Hatfield back for them, why don’t SLR have CRISANO back in the PBA as well.

MANILA, Philippines – Nakatakdang dumating sa bansa bukas si balik-import Anthony Johnson para muling banderahan ang Sta. Lucia para sa darating na 2009-2010 PBA Fiesta Conference na nakatakda sa Marso 21.

By taking in Sam Eman, Alaska is now exploring possibilities of trading some of its players to trim down its salary cap for the PBA Fiesta Cup which opens shop on Sunday.
Aces coach Tim Cone said that they are now evaluating the performances of their players so that they can allow the 6-foot-8 Eman play along side with Sonny Thoss.
Eman and Thoss, who stands at 6-foot-7, will form Alaska’s own version of twin tower. Eman, the man from Davao, joined the team last conference as Unrestricted Free Agent with Rights to Salary from San Miguel Beer.
Eman, who turned 28 last Friday and now on his third season in the pro-league, still has one conference left on his previous three-year contract with SMB.
Although Alaska will continue to shoulder the remainder of his salary, Eman, already signed a separate deal with the Aces approximately worth P11 million, reason why Cone said it’s possible that they move some players to other teams.
But the team is still undecided as to who will go and who will not.
“We haven’t done that yet,” Cone told the Bulletin in a phone interview. “Sam has made an impact on our salary cap.”
Cone confirmed reports that one possible trade they are looking at is to send forward John Ferriols to Barako Bull. The 6-foot-4 Ferriols, an eight-year veteran, is one of the key players in Alaska’s frontline rotation averaging 2.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in the Philippine Cup.
“We don’t want him to worry. The reports that John is now going to Barako Bull is very premature,” Cone said.
They tapped as import Diamon Simpson, a 6-foot-5 forward/center who had a previous stint in the NBDL, to boost their title bid in the coming conference.
The Aces are hoping to put their humiliating setback in the Philippine Cup where they were swept away by Purefoods in their best-of-seven title series.

Whether Barako Coffee will stay in the league at the end of the Fiesta Conference or find another company taking over its franchise remains to be seen. The PBA has signified intentions of expanding participating squads from 10 to 12 teams.
“Whether the timing is good or not remains to be seen,” added Casiao on the league’s expansion plan.
While Barako Coffee has at least made it open to the public about its present situation, another squad has contemplated on putting its franchise on sale.
A top executive of the league, who requested anonymity, told GMANews.TV that another PBA team is now mulling the possibility of selling its franchise and one of the top companies in the land has expressed interest on acquiring it.
“That’s why this team wants to remain competitive because they want to keep the high value once it will be sold,” said the source.. “This will give them a good reason to sell its franchise at a competitive price because they still have good materials on their squad.”

Coach there is no logic why you have to trade Joseph to SMB? even if SMB offered SLR with additional cash. SLR should at least talk to who ever wants to BUY the Franchise if the can help SLR at least for this last conference so that you can have your remaining players play for SLR. SMB offered and you should have said NO! Your the coach and you should have the “SAY” in every transaction. This is one of the most emotional day of my life as an SLR fan, and I’m sure it’s not only me who feels that way. We moved on with Limpot’s trade and accepted Marlou with all our hearts, we’ve accepted Cabagnot’s departure and embraces Denok, we’ve accepted Espino and Denok’s trade even if it hurts. But I guess we’ve had enough and we didn’t expect you to be that foolish to let go of the ninja, instead of letting him play for your team for your last conference in the PBA. With Yeo’s departure we have all accepted the fact that sooner or later It will be Kelly, Ryan, Bitoy, and Josh’s turn to be traded.
I hope whoever wants to buy SLR must move quickly, for them to at least have Kelly, Ryan and Bitoy in their team. I do hope and pray that it’s Mr. Henry Sy who will buy the TEAM. I believe that he can match SMC in terms of money. I also pray the Barrios will be replaced to stop SMC’s obvious one-sided trades and SMC’s over salary cap line-up. I’m not anti SMC, but I won’t go for a team not doing the right thing, getting all those players is not an assurance that they will win Championships because GOD is not blind.

It is so sad to see these drastic changes happen so often to our team this year. We still have solid players to compete but we will miss Joseph. The mistake last conference was the coaching staff trying to figure out the playing time for the players, but now they should know what to do. These are not practice games and the only way to be assured of a playoff spot is to start the right players and not make the wrong substitutions. We cannot afford to get behind. We need to play each game like it is do or die. We did good when you started Kelly, Ryan, and Josh together. I hope that doesn’t change because one thing you can control is the playing time of the players. Good luck SLR and show them all that no matter what they do to our team you can still be GREAT!!!!

sad. but SLR is showing that they cannot anymore afford to pay the salaries of caliber players. i don understand the logic of giving players thru trade na ang nakuhang player e buwaya. kawawang boyet fernandez. sabagay sanay ka naman na laging talo. ipagpatuloy mo na lang. kaawaan ka sana ng diyos.

Well what else can you say but it’s very very dissappointing. Is this a start of things to come?
Yeo has been an important part of the team for the last 2 years. Many times he carried the team when Williams had been unable to do so. There are stretches in games where he can take over and be unstoppable. He brought slashing and penetration elemnts to the offense,something the team lacked. Most importantly, he provided character, charisma, and fanbase.
I’m sure there were valid reasons for this, most glaring is economics, but whatever these are, you cannot take away the fact that March 16 is one of the saddest days in franchise history.
Bonbon Custodio is a talented player and could very well end up as good or even better than Yeo. But this is nothing but speculation and hope at this point. Trading an established, important, and well liked player, for someone with the remote possibility of potential is never a good thing. Also consider that Yeo carried DLSU in the UAAP and Harbor Center in the PBL. Custodio started out great in the UAAP, then allegations of game fixing had him suspended during the Final Four.
If this move is indeed a cost cutting move, then we should actually get SMB because they are giving SLR financial relief. Also, Yeo will be in a good place, financial wise, because SMB is known to have good perks.
Good luck to Joseph and thanks for the 2 years. It will be difficult watching him play against SLR. Let’s hope Custodio can regain the good form he showed early in his rookie year when he was getting consistent playing time with SMB.
To SLR management and coaching staff, these are indeed difficult times and us fans are behind the team thru thick and thin. We really don’t want to see the team go and hope that it can be saved.

Is is indeed sad to even think that SLR might be leaving the league soon, specially for a die hard SLR follower like me. But like the changing time, I think we have to be practical about the whole situation. SLR, due to its economical and financial difficulties can no longer keep up competing with the big guys of the league, not to mention that SLR is carrying a product that is not household in nature. I think it is high time SLR sells the team to a company which has deeper pockets. Personally I am looking forward to either SM or Meralco buying the SLR franchise soon before all the marquee players of SLR are lost to other teams through one sided trade deals that might be done to bring in money to the management.
Thanks SLR for the years of providing us followers with a team to support.

1. Meron bang team na gustong tumanggap kina Mendoza at Marlou?
2, Gusto ba mag sign ni Crisano sa SLR?
3. May gusto ba bumili ng franchise?
We’re all dissappointed and even angry but we need to be realistic as well. Ang dali natin magsalita pero we don’t know the entire situation.

@dekpans very aggresive na tlga si Mr.Sy sa pag bili ng team di po ito kathang isip or imbento sa tingin ko kaya tapatan ng SM ang sanmiguel interms of pag pp sweldo ng mga players.At this moment hindi kayang tulungan ni Mr.Sy ang pag pp sweldo sa mga players ng sta.lucia ksi may rules na sinusunod sa PBA kaya ang pag trade kay yeo ay managment decision iyon.Isipin na lang nila na ilang months na lang nmn mttpos na ang season kung baga nka save na ang sta.lucia sa pag pp sweldo kay yeo kumpara kay custodio na maliit lng ang sweldo.

We’ll we see na lang…if ever it comes to that I hope the franchise is bought, not disbanded (like Shell). If possible nga sana interested ang mga Gokongwei sa franchise. Wouldn’t it be great they get the franchise they sold before.
If SM ang bumili, it looks to be a stable company naman.

sure na iyan nxt season almost close na ang deal sa pag purchase ng SM sa SLR.For sure hindi aaminin ng managment iyan sa ngayon pero most of the players at coaching staff knows it already.Excited na ako for nxt season maski malayo pa hopefully makakuha ng magaling na coach ang team at maka kuha ng magagaling na players.According sa balita din po this team will be compose of williams omolon reyes urbiztondo at custodio. Ang usapan ata eh sta.lucia could trade all the players they want except for williams and reyes iyan daw ang kasunduan ng mga robles and SY.Sabagay tama si sy kasi mas madali mag buo ng team pag may franchise player ka at the same time early 20′s pa ang dalawa.

according sa isang news na masaya na both sta.lucia realty ni Mr. Exi Robles and Mr.Henry Sy kasi almost sure na next season na i turn over na sa SM ang basketball team ng SLR.Iyong kay yeo daw still it was sta.lucia’s call pa kaya na trade cya sa san miguel.Pero according to a reliable source ang tlgng untouchable daw sa team ay si williams and reyes this was the turning point kung bakit tlga binili ng SY ang sta.lucia kasi capable ito na pag champion ang isang team at very young pa ang dalawa in early 20′s pa sila.So sana mga kapawa believers supportahan natin sila tulad ng ginawa natin sa sta.lucia ok.Hindi na tayo papa huli next year!

I wonder if its really HENRY SY going to buy SLR… FYI, as far as I know, Mr. Sy also called as Tatang is not that healthy anymore and many of you doesn’t know that. So if the news you are going to say is just one of your wishfull thinking don’t say anymore, you will just give false hope to all SLR fans including your self.
But I do hope who ever is calling the shots for SM group of companies now is really thinking of buying SLR.

I know that it is not impossible, binili nga ng BDO and EPCI Bank at GE bank so Im very much aware this can come true. But I will wait for it to be on the NEWS na tlga before ako tlagang maniniwala. As of the moment this will remain as a rumor.

Dino, SLR lost LIMPOT, FRANCISCO, ADRIANO, CABAGNOT, MENESES, ALVARES, HAWKINS, CAIDIC and many more, pero we stayed with SLR. Bka ikaw lilipat ka pagnawala sila Kelly and Ryan, ako I will stay with SLR. Why? Because it is already part of my life, LIFE IS LIKE THAT, YOU CAN’T PREDICT WHAT WILL HAPPENED. In the PBA players will come and go, teams will also come and go, but if ever SLR gets to be sold and be a new team in the PBA, sa kanila pa rin ako, if hindi kanila pa rin. Im happy because they had their chance to have the most talented players in the country, but remember its not just about the players DIno-saur! Bobo ka nga tlga!

well its not how old u r being a fan of any team.What sta.lucia is expiriencing at this time is financial we the fans should be happy dt someone like SM is willing to buy the franchise.Not like redbull its been a year or 2 years so to speak they have lost good players and now look at them! Lets all be thankful that the team lasted 17yrs.If SM do really buys the team lets support them the way we did for sta.lucia.

The wake up call came early. Again SLR started slow in the 3rd Qtr. The opponent expected this and built a big enough lead. Again SLR played catch up and fell short. We must finally correct this big mistake. NOW.

Veterans must play like veterans. They come in and do their job. Not take forever to warm up, like rookies. The whole SLR team should play each quarter like its the 4th qtr. Each game, a sudden death. If a player is tired or relaxing, substitute agad. AJ cannot stop Najorda?
